You may have noticed some changes to my blog recently. Not much on the surface, but a lot taken in whole. I upgraded my back-end database from Access to SQL Server (finally!) and upgraded my blog software itself (also finally!). I've been on .Text .95 from the start and I've always liked it, but it's lacking in some ways. The biggest problem is that it isn't supported. No active development community means you are on your own! I mad a few small changes to mine, but I didn't have the energy to do much more.
Phil Haack got this project going and has done a great job! The single biggest improvement for me, was the ability to delete more than one comment at a time! With the proliferation of comment spam, this is a bigger deal than it seems. The addition of BlogML is nice for making it easier to change blog provider, then there are some nice-to-have's like RSS compression and delta.
All in all, it was worth the pain (minimal though) to get it moved over. I apologize for any down time (though I can't imagine it was too big of a heartache for anyone!), and things should be back to normal now. You may see some more minor changes as I play with the skins, but the basic blog should stay the same for awhile now. Their next version will finally be ASP.NET 2.0, and I can't wait!
